Sun and Orbit Ring — Sterling Silver & 24ct Gold Keum-boo

The Sun and Orbit Ring is built around a single idea: gravity. The pull inward. The force that holds everything in place.  The centre of the band is carved into a concave sphere and fused with 24ct gold keum-boo, a deliberate optical illusion, the sun appearing to pull inward rather than project outward. The mirror-finished interior catches and reflects light from within,  the sun's glow, turned inward. Oxidised lines trace the orbital paths of planets across the silver surface, each one a precise mark of celestial motion.

Keum-boo is an ancient Korean goldsmithing technique in which 24ct gold is permanently fused onto sterling silver through heat and pressure, without solder or adhesive. The gold does not sit on the surface, it becomes part of it.

Unisex in form, this ring belongs to those drawn to the precision of celestial mechanics and the beauty of what holds things together, an example to be followed.

Part of Mo Ghrian's My Sun Collection, produced in a numbered series through a slow, music-guided crafting process. Hand-forged by Fabio Oliveira (shortlisted for the DCCI Future Makers Award 2024) in Cork, Ireland, from 100% recycled sterling silver and 24ct gold keum-boo, sourced from responsible Jewellery Council-certified supplier.
